Olivia Chen, a PhD candidate in Mechanical Engineering at Ludlow University, has been awarded the National Research Fellowship in Advanced Energy Systems, recognising her pioneering work on high-efficiency thermal energy recovery.
Olivia's research focuses on improving waste heat capture in industrial manufacturing, with applications in sustainable production and net-zero technologies. Her findings aim to reduce energy losses and improve efficiency in large-scale operations such as steelmaking and power generation.

The fellowship, awarded by the UK Engineering Research Council, will fund an extended research placement with leading industry partners and provide opportunities for international collaboration.
This fellowship gives me the chance to take my research from theory into practice. Ludlow’s facilities and mentorship have been vital to reaching this stage.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering praised the award as a reflection of Ludlow’s growing reputation for excellence in sustainability research and engineering innovation.
